Submitted to the Portuguese Parliament on April 10th, 2024, Luís Montenegro’s governmental programme is based on six strategic pillars with the aim of making Portugal a country that stands for more solidarity; a wealthier, more innovative, and competitive country; a more open and global country; greener and more sustainable, more transparent and democratic.
Among the measures announced in the 184-page document are the reduction of the personal income tax, the increase of the minimum wage to 1000 euros by 2028, the revocation of several measures of the Mais Habitação program, the restoration of teachers’ service time as well as the enhancement of security forces’ careers, and the adoption of an ambitious anti-corruption agenda. The program also included 60 measures from other parties, mainly from the PS, but also from Chega, IL, Livre, BE, PAN, and PCP.
