Luís Montenegro presented his Government Programme, reiterating his intention to maintain dialogue with all parties, while issuing a clear warning: the legislature will only fail to last four years if there is a “deliberate and complicit coalition” between the Socialist Party and Chega. The debate on the Government Program took place on June 17 and 18 in the Assembly of the Republic.
During his presentation in Parliament, and in line with the ten strategic pillars underpinning the program, the Government emphasized its intention to carry out a profound reform of the State, guided by four fundamental principles: simplification, digitalization, coordination, and accountability.
Among the key priorities are migration policy, with the promise of revising the nationality law and amending the immigration law, changes that will impact access to family reunification and simplify the process of repatriating illegal immigrants.
As in 2024, the Government incorporated proposals from other parties into the document – this time 80, twenty more than the previous year – reflecting the new parliamentary landscape: 27 measures from Chega, 25 from the Socialist Party, 16 from Liberal Initiative, 6 from Livre, 2 from the Communist Party (PCP), 2 from PAN, 1 from the Left Bloc, and 1 from JPP
